Our name Gap4Africa pretty much embodies everything our company is about. Gap4Africa was established with a clear goal, to help improve the lives of the many children in rural Botswana who are affected by HIV/Aids and extreme poverty. We work closely with a non-governmental organisation called Ipelegeng Needy and Orphan Trust which was established to build decent shelter for HIV/Aids orphans and extremely poor families.
Our achievements so far can not compare to those of older companies in other countries that offer gap year expeditions, but it is our hope to one day tell you on this same page that we’ve managed to change the lives of thousands of orphans and families. We are at the beginning of a difficult and very long road and our only hope of achieving our goals and the ones of Ipelegeng Needy and Orphan trust depend solely on your decision to jump on board and become part of our ambitious team.
At the moment most of our activities are concentrated in two villages in the southern part of Botswana, namely Leshibitse and Atesia, which is only a drop in the ocean. In addition to helping build homes, Gap4Africa and its volunteers get involved in activities that help orphaned children gain self confidence and discover their talents. These include get togethers where children take part in plays, sports, story telling, painting, singing as well as learning to speak English. It is part of our long term plan to eventually spread to the rest of rural Botswana where orphaned children are currently getting no such attention.
It is also a major priority of ours to make sure our volunteers grow during their time with us. While in Botswana volunteer will also get to work with the Ipelegeng Needy and Orphan Trust to come up with ways of raising funds for its projects as well as assisting in supervision of contruction projects. By the time you’re done here with us you will feel like a brand new more insightful person with something meaningful on your resume.
